Written by on September 15, 2021

An additional P33 billion will be needed by the Department of Education (DepEd) to provide laptops to all teachers amid distance learning schemes.

DepEd Undersecretary Alain Pascua said this during the budget deliberations of the House committee on appropriations this afternoon.

Aside from the P33 billion, Pascua said the department will need an additional P4 billion for teachers’ data connectivity next year.

According to Pascua, Bayanihan 2, which expired in June, helped them to provide laptops and data connectivity to several thousand teachers.

Although the Department of Information and Communications Technology is mandated to resolve the data connectivity issue, Pascua said there are solutions that DepEd is looking at on how to provide smooth data connections not only to teachers but also to students. .
