DFA backlog on passport application, renewal whip 3-M

The backlog of the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) for the issuance of new and renewed passports in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic will reach 3 million applications, according to Foreign Affairs Undersecretary Brigido “Dodo” Dulay.
According to Dulay, the biggest challenge for them is the COVID-19 pandemic itself because they need to reduce their operations by 50% to be able to comply with the existing minimum public health standards.
For more slots to be given to passport applicants, the DFA recently opened their off-site centers, but even this step is also not enough for the huge demand.
That is why the DFA now wants to open more sites that will be made exclusive only to overseas Filipino workers and those who renew passports to speed up the process.
Dulay could not say why many now want to get a passport, but clarified that they do not discourage these people from getting such a document.
